Chelsea

The perfect blend between hip and luxurious.

Welcome to Chelsea

A bustling neighborhood in the heart of Manhattan

Stretching from the waterfront to Sixth Avenue, Chelsea is home to some iconic Manhattan locales. This neighborhood is full of boutiques and markets, stunning green spaces, and incredible entertainment venues—giving locals easy access to things many people would travel across the city for. The perfect blend between hip and luxurious, Chelsea more than deserves its place in the pantheon of great Manhattan neighborhoods.

Though it began well before the American Revolutionary War, Chelsea wears its historic atmosphere incredibly well, mixing it with the modern, hip flair that the neighborhood has become to be known for, particularly in terms of architecture. Ribboning through the traditional brownstones and doorman buildings is a plethora of striking styles, such as the Greek Revival styles of West 20th Street or the Anglo-Italiante style, not to mention the sleek, modern high-rises that brim with luxury.

What to Love

  • World-class art galleries and flourishing entertainment scene
  • Great, lively nightlife

Local Lifestyle

Uptown and downtown coalesce in Chelsea, which is considered one of the centers of the art world. Luxury and uptown glamour meets cultural staples and an artsy vibe, making it home to an unparalleled lifestyle and one of the most sought-after locations in the city. A bustling neighborhood with incredible nightlife, the area sings with activity and relevance. The place for those who love the heart of New York City, between the late nights strolling home from your favorite bar and the afternoons spent lounging along the waterfront. Gallery openings, outdoor activity, and a new place to discover around every corner make this neighborhood a non-stop destination for excitement.

Dining, Shopping, & Entertainment

Full of high-end stores and restaurants—but without the pretentious air that can sometimes accompany them—it's one of the best places in New York for dining and shopping.

Craving a bite to eat, a refreshing drink, or even just a place to spend time with loved ones? Chelsea is bursting with opportunity. Locals love Los Tacos No. 1, Jack’s Wife Freda, Old Homestead Steakhouse, and La Noxe, which is one of the hottest bars in the city thanks to its amazing cocktails and industrial prohibition vibe.

Its proximity to the meatpacking district is yet another draw as the area houses incredible restaurants and hangout spots like Catch NYC, RH Rooftop, STK Steakhouse, and The Standard Biergarten.

Things to Do

Chelsea is known worldwide for its excellent activity and art world status. Additionally, it maintains some of the most beautiful green spaces in all of New York.

From art galleries like David Zwirner, Matthew Marks Gallery, Paula Cooper Gallery, Hauser & Wirth New York, Marianne Boesky Gallery, and the Gagosian Gallery, residents can soak up the best of the contemporary art scene right in their own neighborhood.

Though you can never really complete the art scene as there’s always something new, Chelsea also offers incredible outdoor activity. Along the waterfront, Chelsea is bordered by Hudson River Park, which hosts miles of paved trails for cyclists and runners. There are multiple public piers as well, the most prominent being Chelsea Piers, boasting a fitness club, a driving range, and youth classes like gymnastics and ice skating. More than that even is The High Line, an astounding feat of New York City green space. It offers an elevated green space and art-filled walkway that leads from Hudson Yards to Chelsea Market.

Getting Around NYC

Centrally located and full of access points to the rest of America’s biggest city, Chelsea is never more than thirty minutes away from Columbus Circle, Grand Central, Union Square, or Wall Street if you’re traveling by train. By car, that time is even shorter, usually under 15 minutes. With the 1/2/3 and A/C/E trains, you’re never more than a hop, skip, and jump away from your next location.

Schools

Home to some of New York City’s top-rated public schools, Chelsea is home to PS11, a National Blue Ribbon Elementary School. Other top educational opportunities include:
